Al Said wins Barwa squash title

DOHA, 29 March 2011 - Mohamed Al Said beat Abdulrehman Al Malki in the final of the Professional category in the first Barwa Squash Championship.

Al Said played slick squash to win the final 13-11, 11-6, 11-4 at Khalifa Squash Complex.

In the Level A final, Mark Roberts beat Zeyad Rahih 11-9, 11-6, 8-11, 5-11, 11-5.

The prize distribution ceremony was attended by Talal Al Mawlawi, Assistant Secretary-General of Qatar Squash Federation (QSF), Mohammed Al Khulaifi, Board Member, QSF, and Hussain Fakhri, Head of Marketing and Communications, Barwa Bank.

Steve Troop, CEO, Barwa Bank, was at hand to give away the prizes to the finalists in various categories contested by the players.

After the prize distribution ceremony, Troop, said: “The very positive response to this tournament is a testimony to our vision of investing in the future of youth in Qatar. We will continue to work toward empowering our youth and helping to create a healthy, educated and knowledgeable generation, capable of leading Qatar in days to come.”

Al Mawlawi said: “This was a fantastic week of squash matches. I am very pleased to see so many youngsters exhibiting promising performances. I think we have got a good young bunch of players who could be groomed for future squash events. The level of squash exhibited is very impressive.”

This was the biggest ever sqaush event conducted by QSF at local level.

More than 180 players took part in various categories.

The final was witnessed by a large crowd that also included Australia squash legend Geoff Hunt.

The former world number one and winner of four World Open titles, Hunt said: “We got to see some good performances by these young players. It was a good event with an impressive level of squash.”

Ladies final:

Level B final: Ahmed Noor El Din bt Abdullah Al Mass 13-11, 5-11, 8-11, 13-11, 11-5 (3-2)

Level A final: Mark Roberts bt Zeyad Rahih 11-9, 11-6, 8-1, 5-11, 11-5 (3-2)

Professional final: Mohamed Al Said bt Abdulrahman Al Malki 13/11, 11,-6, 11-4 (3-0)
